Kung Hei Fat Choi!

All the bright red lamps and golden tassels seen decorating the streets signify one thing: the Chinese New Year is here! The Philippines has always celebrated the Chinese New Year as a sign of friendship between the two countries, commemorating a centuries old relationship between the two.

Though the Chinese had made great contributions in our heritage—from Chinese cuisines to horoscopes—they’ve made far greater impact in the country’s business sector. Out of the 10 richest people in Asia, seven are Chinese-Filipinos.

Let’s meet some of the most successful Chinese businessmen in the country.

George S.K. Ty

A tycoon and philanthropist who founded the Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) that had grown in a short amount of time. With its growth, he also created a foundation that made initiatives for education, healthcare, providing assistance to underprivileged sectors and such.

Emilio Yap

Former chairman of Manila Hotel and owner of Manila Bulletin, a well-known publishing company in the country.

Tony Tan Caktiong

The man behind Jollibee Foods Corporation, the biggest fast food restaurant chain in the country that had also acquired other famous food chains such as Chowking, Greenwich, and more. Jollibee Foods Corporation has many partners including our very own FEU Institute of Technology in Manila.
